The Home and its History
The house was built in 1898/99 by Cr. A.B.Taylor. It was the
"showplace" of Hanover at that time. You will notice as you
look around that he did not spare any expense. A closet in every
bedroom. Victorian decorative or "Gingerbread" woodwork can
be found throughout the house. A majority of the windows are
lead-inlaid, bevelled and stained glass. The original coal fireplace
still exists with its large mantle and side pillars.
The carpentry detail
is superb. So rich in
colour and so intricate
in detail.
The Doctor had his "surgery" and office in the room beside the kitchen,
these are private quarters now. That room has three beautiful stained
glass windows. Over the past 100 years the house has been home to at
least 4 Physicians whereof Dr. Ross was the last to occupy the house
in 1950. As the next family was about to move in, the RED SCHOOL
HOUSE just behind the home caught fire and embers were threatening
to the Manor. At a later date Mrs. Peggy Ross again was afraid that
the house would go up in flames when the Creamery located in back where
the apartments now stand, burned down. As told by family, Mrs. Ross
was standing in their bedroom window and saw the whole thing.
Window seats were built
in several rooms
Large wrap-around porch and tall
pillars accentuate the front of the home.
